The Siege of Maastricht took place from March 8 to June 29, 1579, during the Eighty Years’ War, in and around the city of Maastricht. The massive attack by the Spanish general Alexander Farnese on the fortress of Maastricht led to the almost four-month siege, the violent capture, the ensuing three-day looting and the return of Spanish rule to Maastricht.
