West-Friesland
Initially the region of West-Friesland was part of the Frisian Kingdom. It was annexed in 1289 by Floris V and became part of the county Holland. At the beginning of the Eighty Years’ War the area got virtually cut off from the rest of Holland. Therefore a few cities appointed their own government body for the region. In 1586 the mint for West-Friesland was founded in Hoorn.
