Jongeling Numismatic Consultancy purchases most expensive Dutch coin

April 17, 2017

In November 2016, in the Netherlands, a very rare silver guilder from 1867, the time of King Willem III, was auctioned. This rare guilder of Willem III, of which only 4 are thought to have been made, was given a great deal of attention by bidders. Jongeling Numismatic Consultancy was able to bid for this coin on behalf of a client. This rare coin had last been on the market in the 1990s, so the anticipated yield of the sale was expected to go well beyond the valuation of €40,000 . In a fierce battle of bids, the coin finally sold for €85,000 (€104,550,- including commission). It was a new record for a Dutch coin at a Dutch auction, and Jongeling Numismatic Consultancy is proud to have obtained this very rare coin for its client.
