Major Roman treasure hoard recovered after detectorist kept it secret for years
A metal detectorist secretly unearthed a major Roman coin hoard in 2017 near Borsum, in northern Germany, and hid it for eight years. The find was announced by the Lower Saxony State Office for the Preservation of Monuments (NLD) in October. The coins date to the early Roman Imperial period, after the Roman Republic had collapsed and emperors began ruling the empire.
