Translation:
Dear Madam
It is with pleasure that I send you the enclosed plaque. I will explain the reverse: by the oak the sculptor alluded to the strength and energy of my husband, by the hive to his activity. The cornucopia refers to the torches of Hymen. The books allude to instruction and the Bibliotheca Rosenthaliana. The view of Amsterdam shows the city where we’ve passed our lives.
Finally, a little advice: the plaque can be cleaned as needed with a squirt of petroleum jelly.
Your aunt
Baroness von Rosenthal
Amsterdam 3/26 12
